United Way Seeks Day of Caring Volunteers for April 21

by | Feb 24, 2018 | Event

United Way of Southwestern Oregon is seeking local businesses, service clubs, families, and individuals interested in volunteering to help Bay Area seniors and the disabled during this year’s 10th Annual Day of Caring. Last year, 155 volunteers worked at 55 homes in Coos Bay and North Bend City Limits. Projects include yard clean-up, brush and tree pruning and general clean-up.

This year’s Annual Day of Caring is planned for Saturday, April 21st and will involve local volunteers visiting the homes of seniors and people with disabilities. Volunteers will help stack wood, mow lawns, clean gutters, haul trash and do other manual labor jobs seniors and the disabled can’t do for themselves.

Major sponsors include the Eugene and Marlaina Johnston Foundation and Northwest Natural Gas

This year’s event will be staged at the Coos Bay Fire Department with a continental breakfast at 8:30 am. BBQ lunch is provided by NW Natural and with the help of the Bay Area Kiwanis Club. Projects are matched with volunteer team capabilities and available tools.

Our Annual Day of Caring not only helps the elderly and disabled in our community; It also helps beautify the community and corresponds with the City’s Annual Spring Clean-up. Anyone interested in helping can contact Marcia Hart for a volunteer application at United Way of Southwestern Oregon, uwswo.
